How to join the 2024 WALK30 Challenge?
General Instructions
Click the button to access the WALK30 challenge on Challenge Hound webiste.
Registration:
Click on the “Registration” link to access this year’s WALK30 challenge on the Challenge Hound Platform.
Choose your Team:
Click on the team you wish to compete for. The current teams include the City of New Westminster, Burnaby, and Vancouver Coastal Health or Translink. Please only join one team.
Note: Live outside Burnaby/New West? You can still join the WALK30 challenge. Pick the city that resonates with you!
Sign up to Join Team:
Click “SIGN UP TO JOIN TEAM”. Fill out the fields with your first and last name and email address. You can use a pseudonym if preferred. Your email address will be used to receive the account activation link.
Activate your account:
Log into your email, locate the Challenge Hound email and click “Sign In”. This will direct you to your selected team on Challenge Hound.
Join the Team:
Select “Join the team” and next select “Yes, Join”. You will be prompted to select a sub-team, but most will join as “an individual” unless affiliated with a school, municipality, organization, VCH’s hospitals or Translink.
Sub-Team Options:
To streamline the process and provide more clarity, we have reserved the sub-team options only for schools, municipalities, organizations, VCH hospitals and Translink employees. Others should join the challenge “as individuals” from the drop-down menu.
Confirmation:
Your account is set! You will receive a confirmation email from Challenge Hound with a link to your account.
Click on the button to download the Challenge Hound App.
Refer to the "How to Log Your Walking Minutes?" section below to learn how to log your walking minutes.
Schools-Specific instructions
Middle and High Schools
Create Your Account:
Students should create their individual Challenge Hound account following the steps outlined in the “General Instructions” above.
Join Your School’s Team:
In step 6, students are encouraged to join their school’s respective team to compete for their school.
Logging Walking Minutes:
Enter your walking minutes according to the guidelines in the “How to log your walking minutes?” section.
Elementary Schools
Create Class Account:
Teachers should create their accounts on Challenge Hound as outlined in the “General Instructions” section.
Use Class Name for Sign up:
In step 3, you can use your class name as the first name and the number of students in your class as the last name. This way, we can understand how many students are represented in your account. For example, “Class A15”.
Join Your School’s Team:
In step 6, teachers should join their school’s respective team to compete for their school.
Logging Students’ Walking Minutes:
Enter weekly aggregated walking minutes for students as explained in "How to Log Your Walking Minutes?". This includes class walking minutes during school days and any additional minutes students report before or after school.
Weekend Minutes:
Teachers can include weekend walking minutes if students choose to report them. A downloadable table is available here: WALK30_2024 _Walking Minutes Log_Elementary Schools to help students track their walking minutes.
How to log your walking minutes?
For Individuals:
Click on "Add an Activity."
Enter the activity name (e.g., Afternoon Run).
Specify the activity date and time.
Choose the activity type from the default options ( e.g., Walk, Run, Hike, etc.).
Input the activity duration in hours, minutes, seconds
Optionally, provide the distance in kilometres.
For Elementary School Teachers (Adding on Behalf of the Class) :
Click on "Add an Activity."
Input the total walking minutes (aggregated data) for the entire class in the duration and kilometres section. Teachers can add walking minutes weekly, but please be advised to add the aggregated amount for your entire class for each day of the week.
Each week, WALK30 participants from each team recording the highest walking minutes will be awarded a gift card.
Disclaimer: If you have already received a gift card, you will not be eligible for another one. This is to ensure that other participants can receive a gift card.
