  • Can I walk and record more than 30 minutes?

Absolutely! The more you walk, the more points you can contribute to your city’s tally and boost its chances of winning the Challenge. It might be a great time to plan a hike and log those minutes (maybe hours!) too.

  • Does the Challenge track steps?

No. The measurement method for the Walk30 Challenge is time instead of (typical) steps. This is done so that we do not exclude people with mobility issues (who face issues recording steps) or do not have access to a step counter to make it a part of the challenge.

  • Do I need to join a team?

On the initial dashboard, you will need to join either the City of New Westminster, City of Burnaby, or Vancouver Coastal Health. Later, when promoted to choose a sub-team, you should select “An Individual'' if you are not affiliated with any schools, hospitals, municipality, or any major participating organization.

  • Can I create a sub-team?

No. For increased clarity and a more streamlined data entry and collection process this year, sub-teams are pre-set only for schools, hospitals, municipalities, and participating organizations. Other participants should choose the "An Individual" sub-team to participate as individuals in the challenge.

  • Can I sign up even if I don't live in the participant municipalities?

Absolutely. Wherever you live, you can be a part of the Walk30 Challenge. Just remember to select which city you are walking for.

  • Can we sign up as a family?

No, this year, you can’t compete as a family. We advise that a family does walk together but create an individual account for each family member to log in during their walking minutes. If you have children, please create an account for them and help them log in their walking minutes.

  • How old do I need to be to sign in?

There is no age requirement to join. We welcome all ages and abilities to the Walk30 Challenge! If you want to walk/roll, you are eligible to join.

Important Note: Participants under 13 must be added to a parent/guardian account to log their minutes.

    It is FREE!

  • What’s the survey link that I received before the start of the Challenge?

The Walk30 Challenge 2024 Committee is interested in learning about your walking preferences, motivations, and suggestions. These anonymous feedback surveys aim to gather insights into your experience and help inform our partnering municipalities about necessary changes to enhance neighbourhood walkability. There will be two surveys: one before the Challenge and one after.

We look forward to receiving your feedback through these surveys! Thank you for taking the time to complete them.

  • How do you evaluate the program's success?

The ‘Challenge Hound’ platform allows data to be captured on individual participants—when they walked and for how long. In addition, we conducted pre-event survey data and post-event surveys to understand how the participants benefited from the program. All this data and feedback help us promote a healthy lifestyle and inform decision-makers on developing more walkable, greener, and livable neighbourhoods.
